การเรียนภาษาอังกฤษจากการฟังเพลงเป็นวิธีที่ดีและได้ผล แต่เอ๊ะ!! บางครั้งเราฟังเพลงภาษาอังกฤษแล้ว งง ว่าเค้าร้องเพลงอะไร ทำไมฟังดูเพราะแต่ฟังไม่รู้เรื่องเลย คำศัพท์บางคำก็ลากเสียงยาวๆ สั้นๆ แปลกๆ ไม่ต้องแปลกใจไปมันคือ เทคนิคการร้องเพลงที่เราเรียกว่า “Cursive singing” ถ้ายังไม่แน่ใจว่ามันคืออะไร ลองมาอ่านบทความนี้กันเลยค่ะ ระดับความยาก: 3

What a word: “cursive singing” / “singing in cursive”

First, an example: Before we explain what it means, please watch this video:

Did you understand what he said? (Maybe you want to watch it again.)

WTF?

He said: “Welcome to my kitchen. We have bananas. And avocados.”

Now watch it again and it makes sense, right?

Means: “Cursive singing” is a style of singing. Depending on your point of view, you could say the pronunciation is “weird” or “wrong” or “cool” or “annoying” — or maybe a combination of some or all of these things.

Sometimes syllables are stretched out longer than they should be. Or stretched from one sound to two or even more sounds. Sometimes vowels are sung in the wrong tone. Words are slurred. Letters are dropped. Ends of a word are connected to the next word.

You might wonder if the singer is trying to imitate a baby, with his or her voice thin and high as opposed to full and deep.

It’s almost like the purpose is to confuse the listener.

Even if you don’t understand what I’m trying to explain here, we’ve all heard famous pop stars who use this technique. Here are a few: Halsey, Selena Gomez, Jorja Smith, Billie Eilish, Amy Winehouse, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears … the list goes on and on and on.

English Teachers are Swifties

You know who doesn’t sing in cursive? Taylor Swift. So if you’re trying to learn English by listening to pop songs (which is a great idea!), you’re better off with Taylor than Halsey.

Oh and I guess Katy Perry also doesn’t sing in cursive. She’s definitely not a fan of the style!
